Mitchell Jones is the Assistant Band Director for Morton High School as well as the Music Teacher at Lettie Brown Elementary School. Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.
At Morton, Mr. Jones conducts the Symphonic Winds, Madrigal Brass, and assists with the Marching Band. He also leads the leadership team within Morton Bands.
Prior to working at Morton, Mr. Jones has worked with numerous programs in central Illinois area as a music and visual technician for marching band. He completed his student teaching in Champaign, IL where he worked with Champaign Central High School and Jefferson Middle School. At the High School, Mr. Jones worked with Central’s Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Concert Band, and String Orchestra.
Mr. Jones has performed in many prestigious ensembles, including the concert bands and orchestra at ISU as well as two World Class Drum and Bugle Corps. He performed with the Blue Stars from 2012-2014 and at the Bluecoats from 2015-2016. His last year at the Bluecoats, their production “Down Side Up” won the world championship. Mr. Jones was also given the opportunity after this summer to travel and perform in Hong Kong, China with a small group of members to perform in the Chinese New Years Parade. Most recently, Mr. Jones spent the 2018 Summer as a music instructor at the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps working with the low brass.
